Nature

Rent a holiday home in the rural departement Lot-et-Garonne through Gites and enjoy the tranquility, nature and mild climate. The area has sprawling green hills, bastides, rivers, orchards, lime rocks, castles, windmills and dovecotes.

Sights around your holiday home

Medieval fortified towns are e.g. Monflanquin en Beauville. Via two old gates you can admire the Villeneuve-sur-Lot bastide, with farmers market and Haras National (national horse stable). Or walk up the Roman road to the charming village of Pujols with its half-timbered houses ,during your holiday.
Visit the 12th century castle and Maison du Vin, with information about Côtes de Duras wines, in fortified town Duras. In Marcellu and Fumel you can also visit medieval castles. The city walls of Marmanda have been adorned with mosaics which show most important events in the history of the town.
Louis XVIII and Louis XVIV both stayed in spa town Casteljaloux in residence Maison du Roy. Worth seeing is the garden filled with waterlilies in the world’s oldest water plant nursery in Le Temple-sur-Lot (Claude Monet ordered his plants here), and the caves of Fontirou in Castella.

Activities from your holiday home

Start walking straight from your holiday home in Lot-et-Garonne: there are 3,500 kms of walking tracks. Or enjoy the area by boat: 200 kms of waterways on the Lot, the Baïse and Canal des Deux Mers. Along the Garonne is a ‘voie verte’, a green bicycle path, 87 kms long, which runs through the department capital Agen. Visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Agen here, where works of Sisley and Goya are displayed. On the walls of the Cathédrale Saint-Caprais you will find beautiful frescos. The city is surrounded by plum orchards. Beside plums the apple ‘tourtière’ is a local speciality, just as Cabécou goats cheese.
