Alsace

The Alsace is an elongated region in northern France, with in the west the Vosges, and in the east the Rhine River.
Until 1919 the area was part of the German Empire, which explains the presence of the colorful half-timbered houses and the names of the flowery villages such as "Bergheim", "Riquewihr", "Ribeauvillé" or "Guebwiller".

Make a bicycle tour along the Wine Route to do a tasting of the Crémant d'Alsace, Pinot Noir or Pinot Gris and whilst cycling don’t forget to look up in the air to see the storks. In this region many nests are specially equipped to accommodate them or to allow them to regroup.

Alsace is also very popular for its gastronomy. In the "winstub" (small Alsatian restaurants) you can enjoy all the specialties: the famous thin pizzas or "flammeküche" as well as sauerkraut, Munster cheese-based specialties or coq au Riesling – one of the Alsatian specialties, just like the Gewurztraminer.

During your stay do not forget to visit Colmar, the fortified town of Neuf-Bristach on the Rhine and the old center of Mulhouse with its car museum, railway museum and zoo. A boat trip is a good way to discover Strasbourg, capital of the region and European capital. The beautiful cathedral, the many parks, museums and squares on which you can visit the famous Christmas markets, give the city a lot of charm.

Did you know that you can also go skiing in Alsace? The Markstein station, for example, has 12 tracks. And in summer you can make beautiful hiking tours or go mountain biking in the Vosges by following the Route de Crêtes, the Grand Ballon and the Honeck.
