The house
Spacious open-plan house. Ground floor consists of large kitchen diner, lounge and tv, plus a double bedroom with shower room and wc. Access from ground floor by double doors to garden, pool and covered eating areas. From kitchen oak stairs lead you up to large lounge with log burner and tv, access from this lounge through double doors to balcony, overlooking pool and to covered outside lounge area and to garden. A few more stairs from lounge, lead you up to first floor, where there is a mezzanine with a pool table and on this floor there are two bedrooms and a large bathroom with wc, and the main master bedroom with it's own shower room and wc.
The house sits in land of over an acre with private pool, gardens, parking and countryside views. You also have two eating areas, one under a wisteria pergola and the other under a covered terrace, another covered terrace with a lounge for seating for 8 people and a firepit for toasting marshmellows. Very peaceful with beautiful countryside views.

Nous avons eu la chance de séjourner une semaine dans le Gîte "les oiseaux" de Lorna et Mark qui est un petit paradis sur terre pour les amoureux du farniente et de la nature. La maison est vaste et un véritable Havre de paix. Tout est mis à disposition dans la maison pour s'y sentir bien. Nous étions 3 générations à profiter de ce cadre enchanteur près de sites à visiter et d activités diverses du Périgord Noir. Merci Lorna pour vos attentions, votre écoute et votre discrétion lors de notre séjour.
Restaurants, food & wine
Local medieval town of Gourdon just 6 kms south of the house with many restaurants, wine bars plus other restaurants in local villages. Sarlat is 30 minutes away with large selection of restaurants. Many local food markets weekly in local villages and evening marche gourmands close by which we can recommend. The Cahors vineyards are just a short drive away where you can find some interesting restaurants and go wine tasting.
Activities
The house is in countryside near the Dordogne River, a great location close to the main sites of the Dordogne. The area is great for walking, cycling and you can swim, fish and canoe at the river (Dordogne). It is close to all the main attractions: chateaux, (Milandes, Beynac, Castelnaud), also there are some stunning caves close by, Gouffre de Padirac, Lacave, for example. Visit some of the most beautiful villages of the Dordogne, Sarlat, La Roque de Gageac and also Rocamadour is a most. Finally just relax, enjoy the weather, the wine, food, marche gourmands and the local markets, and soak up the french life whatever you choose to do.
