The house
Domaine La Vieille Carrière is situated in an old stone quarry (la carrière is French for stone quarry). The almost one hundred year old house was created as an office and shed for the quarry when the then dirt road connecting the surrounding villages had to be paved and a stone was needed for the foundation. In the course of time, the 'keet' was converted into a charming 'maison en pierre' with all modern conveniences. After all, there were plenty of stones.
Recently, a new swimming pool was built in the quarry, which is a lovely place to sunbathe, cool off, play or just laze around. Both the house with flat and the swimming pool are completely at your disposal and are therefore not shared with others.
The house is suitable for 6 persons, 4 persons in the house and 2 persons in the flat with private entrance, or the 'ensuite'. The whole is decorated in a cosy French brocante style and fully equipped. The house has a living room, two bedrooms, bathroom, separate toilet and a kitchen and utility room in the basement. The flat has a bedroom, bathroom and separate toilet.

The house is an 8-minute drive from Le Bugue, a lively market town with all the necessary facilities such as multiple bakeries, supermarkets and restaurants. In the immediate vicinity are many tourist attractions including the rivers La Dordogne and Le Vezere, caves, castles and charming medieval towns. Sarlat is 25 km away and the larger towns of Perigueux and Bergerac are 40 km away. Bergerac has an airport to which Transavia flies from Rotterdam for reasonable prices, especially if you book in time.
The house is situated on 4 hectares of private land with a swimming pool (8x4 m) for private use of the guests !
Domaine La Vieille Carriere is situated on four hectares of land, most of which is woodland and grassland. The house and private swimming pool are situated in the quarry that is completely walled in and equipped with an electric fence for optimal privacy. There are several terraces and there is a Weber barbecue. There is a carport so the car can stand in the shade.

Een enorm fijn verblijf gehad. Huis en buitenruimte voelden beiden bijzonder prettig aan. Daarnaast was de ontvangst en het contact met beide eigenaren heel fijn.
Deze woning gaf ons een “écht op vakantie zijn” gevoel.
Ook leent de woning zich prima als uitvalsbasis voor leuke dagjes weg in de Dordogne; wijnboertjes, kastelen, grotten en leuke dorpjes waaronder Sarlat.Alexander van Dijk from Den Haag,
Bijzonder goed verzorgd, rustig gelegen en van alle gemakken voorzien huis midden in de Dordogne. Meerdere mogelijkheden om op verschillende plekken op het terrein van een wijntje te genieten, te lunchen of te ontbijten. Goed verwarmd zwembad met uitstekende ligbedden en parasols. Bijzonder fijne communicatie met huiseigenaren Tanja en Reinier inclusief fijne ontvangst met Rosé. Al met al heerlijke week in de Dordogne gehad met ons gezin!

Wij hebben met ons 6en en onze honden een top week gehad! Hier wat steekwoorden over ons verblijf. Kort maar krachtig “ top huis - schoon- super ontvangst- behulpzaam- denken mee- heerlijk schoon en verwarmd zwembad - en een hele goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding.
Dit adresje staat in ons vakantie bestond voor een volgende keer!

Restaurants, food & wine
Depending on the season, the market stalls display strawberries, walnuts, mushrooms and black truffles from the Périgord, as well as products based on duck or goose, such as foie gras. The vineyards of Bergerac, which have existed for two thousand years, produce seven AOC wines. There are many nice restaurants with local specialties and the best are the marches gourmands that are held regularly. You bring your own plate, glasses and cutlery for a few euros and you sit down at the long tables. You eat from the food that is offered in tents and from vans. Live music and enjoy!
Activities
From La vieille carrière you can make excellent trips to the world famous prehistoric caves, various castles, beautiful villages such as Les Eyzies, Cadouin, Limeuil, Belves and Le Buque. On the cultural front, concerts, open air theatres and festivals are organised in the high season in the medieval town of Sarlat (which is well worth a visit) and in the villages and towns nearby. There are also nocturnes (evening markets) held in the various villages.
The Dordogne has sufficient possibilities for swimming and canoeing. In the vicinity you can play golf (4 km away, golf course La Marterie), tennis, mountain biking, horse riding and water sports. From La vieille carrière one can explore the surroundings on a bicycle and there are many hiking trails in the area> For the children there are many amusement parks in Journiac and in Le Bugue.

The house is rented from Friday to Friday. This is at the request of our guests, especially during the summer holidays, to avoid the traffic on the motorways. Moreover, you can then fine and quietly do your shopping on Saturday. The cleaning costs include bed linen and towels (please bring your own bath towels).
