Day trips to castles

The largest castle is Chambord, which is on UNESCO’s world heritage list. Art from the Louvre was safe guarded here during the second world war, e.g. the Mona Lisa and Venus from Milo. Visit the castle in Blois, a medieval town with cosy alleys,  squares and a cathedral. Beauregard’s castle has over 3000 painting through which you can learn about the history of France from the 14th to the 17th century.  The castle of Cheverny has a permanent exhibition about Tintin.  Special in Talcy castle are the almost original interior and the large winepress of over 300 years old.

Admire the historic architecture

Sights in the vicinity of your vacation home in Loir-et-Cher are for instance the church with stained glass windows in Huisseau-sur-Cosson and the Roman churches in Suèvre. Visit the church in Lavardin and see the 12th century frescoes. Abbey church  La Trinité and a Roman bell tower can be seen in Vendôme. The lively shopping town built on islands in the Loir, on which you can make fun boat trips.

Activities from your holiday home

Rent a gite in Loir-et-Cher if you like walking and cycling. Routes can be found in  Pouillé and Romorantin-Lanthenay which are located in green surroundings. Enjoy the views of the area in the castle gardens of Chaumont-sur-Loire en Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher.  Nearby is Beauval, one of Europe’s prettiest animal parks which also has pandas. Other pretty areas for day trips are the Canal de la Sauldre with its many locks, and the quiet Canal de Berry and Vallée du Loir. A nice golf course can be found near Onzain. Take a dip in the ecological outdoor pool near Mont-près-Chambord.

Gastronomy in Loir-et-Cher

The market in Contras has all the delicacies from the region on offer. Try shortbread from Nançay, Tarte Tatin from Lamotte-Beuvron, honey, saffron, goats cheese from Selles-sur-Cher and wine from Touraine.
