You pass churches, castles and other historical buildings. With many rivers such as the Sauldre and the Auron you will surely find a good fishing spot.

Discover Cher from your holiday lettings

From your cottage you can drive parts of the Route Jacques Coeur along several interesting sights. The wealthy merchant Jacques Coeur came from the beautiful capital of the Cher, Bourges. Walk through the cobbled streets past quaint squares and mansions. Also visit Saint-Etienne Cathedral which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Aubigny-sur-Nèreh has half-timbered houses and visit in Noirlac the Cistercian Abbey in 1136. French author Alain Fournier, who wrote  Le Grand Meaulnes, came from La Chapelle-d’Angillon.

Taste Sancerre

When en route in Sancerre, make sure to stop for a wonderful dry white wine at one of the wineries. In the charming town you’ll have a wonderful view from the tower of the medieval castle over the vineyards and the Loire. Enjoy the goat cheese from the region, the Crottin de Chavignol.

Castles and monasteries in the Cher

From your holiday home you can make day trips to castles with beautiful gardens, for example in one of the most beautiful villages of France, Apremont-sur-Allier and Meillant Castle dating from 1510. On a steep cliff in Culan you can admire one of the few castles that still has partial wooden towers. The Castle of Ainay-le-Vieil in Saint-Amand-Montrond has no less than nine towers. Worthwhile to see is one of the first Romanesque monasteries in Berry, the 12th-century church in Châteaumeillant, located on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

Porcelain from Berry

In the 19th century, Berry was the main manufacturer of porcelain in France. If you take the ‘Route de la Porcelaine’  you will see workshops, factories, stores and a museum. The route starts in Vierzon, where you can visit the museum about the medieval origins, the old clock tower and the Art Deco gardens.
