Pain-de-Sucre is located on the edge of the National Parc du Queyras, just outside Guillestre.
The ruin, dating from 1647, has been converted into a spacious luxury chalet consisting of two flats. Downstairs behind the chalet is a small cosy camping terrain for a maximum of 6 tents.
The chalet is completely free on a plateau that runs into woodland, from where you have a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains (Les Ecrins and the Queras). At the edge of the terrain the river Guil flows 125 m. lower through an impressive gorge.
Pain de Sucre is a good base for many sporting and cultural activities, both summer and winter.
The chalet is cosily decorated. On the north side you enter the large living room consisting of a kitchen with dining table and two passages to the living room. On the south side you enter through two sliding doors on a large balcony. One floor down is a bathroom and separate toilet. Upstairs are three bedrooms, one with a large balcony overlooking the Ecrins. Here is also an extra shower and toilet.
In summer you have sun all day, but there are also easy places to find shade.

Further remarks
The access road is winding, a bit bumpy and not very wide. It will always remain that way. It is part of the location of our site, in the middle of the beautiful rough nature. We are not going to change a thing!
The electricity of the house is generated by solar panels. This means that power guzzlers such as hair dryer, etc. can not be used. A laptop is no problem at all and there is also Internet. The fridge works on 24 volts and can be left on day and night.
The house is not connected to the sewer but there is a septic tank in the garden. You are requested to use as much as possible biodegradable resources.
The chalet is heated with a wood stove. Because the chalet is well insulated (including double glazing) it is very good to heat. Next to and near the chalet is a large stock of wood in bite-sized chunks that can be put in the stove. So you don't have to provide your own wood supply and you don't have to chop or saw it.

Net buiten het toeristische Guillestre met al zijn mogelijkheden tot activiteiten en om de rand van de Queyras ligt opeens tussen de bergen en langs een bergstroom een prachtig chalet. Het chalet ligt op een groot terrein met enkele kampeerplekken op een paar honderd meter met meer dan voldoende privacy. Op terrein is een heerlijk (fris) zwembad welke goed gebruikt is door onze kinderen. Het chalet is goed voorzien en met aandacht gebouwd en aangekleed. De ontvangst en de hulp tijdens het verblijf door Didi en Karim waren hartelijk. De kinderen hebben een ontzettend leuke tijd gehad en daar heeft het huis/de plek zeker aan bijgedragen.
