Gite: Le Petit Verger
On the chateau estate you will find the brand new holiday cottage "Le Petit Verger". Completely renovated and tastefully decorated, for 2 to 4 people (advice max 2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults).
At 75 metres from the historic castle and the heated swimming pool is the original caretaker's house. It houses this cosy and comfortable Gite for 2 to 4 people.
Around the gite, there is plenty of space, nature and peace and quiet. With a bit of luck, you may see a roe deer along the edge of the forest while enjoying your holiday.
Your terrace is surrounded by a large lawn, our forest and the old orchard. With a magnificent view of the beautiful castle La Mothaye. Here you will find another 4 castle flats and the caretakers/owners.
The gite has a cosy living room with:
- sitting area around the wood-burning stove
- air conditioning (ideal with hot summers)
- a spacious dining table
- high chair and baby cot (available free on request)
- TV and DVD set
- free WIFI
The kitchen is equipped with:
- a fridge with freezer
- microwave
- oven
- dishwasher
- Of course, the kitchen is fully equipped with various pans, mixer, cutlery, plates, glasses, kettle, coffee machine, etc, etc.

- The master bedroom has a double bed (160x200) - 2 pers.
- The children's bedroom has a firm and large bunk bed (90x200) - 2 pers
- The bedrooms and bathroom have mosquito nets

Our guests of the Gite can of course also use all the facilities that château La Mothaye has:

- on request you can use the (general) washing machine and dryer (for a fee). Please ask us if you have laundry.
Shops:
- Intermarche (supermarket) at 3 km
- bread machine in village (baguette) - bakers with delicious fresh bread at 4km (or via our "fresh bread service").
Discover the castles, wines, Loire culture and relax on the estate by the pool, in your own gite or on your lounche sofa on the terrace. All the ingredients are present for a special stay.

Chateau La Mothaye is located in the small village of Brion in the Loire Valley close to Loire castles and tourist towns such as Angers, Saumur and Tours. Brion is ideally located just 50 minutes south of Le Mans (famous for the 24 hour race) and 20 minutes from Saumur where the town's beautiful Loire castle overlooks the Loire. Here is also the most famous French horse dressage school (Le Cadre Noir). In just 30 minutes, you are in the centre of the city of Angers where there are many shops, restaurants and bars.
*** The park and the estate ***
The chateau stands on an area of almost 36 hectares which is also called Lieu Dit La Mothaye. About half of this consists of deciduous forest and the other half is meadow and parkland/garden surrounding the chateau. You are of course free to walk around here, jog or walk to the old church in Brion. When you have left our grounds, you are already halfway.
And maybe you will be lucky enough to see pheasants, squirrels or deer hiding in the woods near us; the best chance for this is in the early morning.

We hebben een fantastisch verblijf gehad met een heel erg vriendelijke eigenaars. Alles is goed verzorgd en je kan er helemaal tot rust komen.

Wij verbleven in studio Montigny en hebben er een heerlijke week gehad. De studio was ruimer dan hij op de foto's leek en voorzien van alle gemakken. Fantastische sfeer in het chateau en de studio. De regio is ons ook uitstekend bevallen. Niet heel druk en de mensen zijn er heel vriendelijk (en spreken allemaal Engels). Binnen een uur rijafstand zijn er meer dan genoeg kastelen te bezoeken. Ook de Troglodytes zijn een aanrader. Wij kunnen dit zeker aanbevelen!

Wat was het hier fijn! We verbleven in gite le petit verger. Een schattige gite, leuk ingericht, en met airco! Was geen overbodige luxe met de hitte! Mooie plek om buiten te zitten, geheel privé en uitzicht op bossen en een weiland. We hebben genoten van hond Luna en kip Betty. We komen zeker terug!
Restaurants, food & wine
There are several good restaurants in the area. Both close to us and along the Loire river, as well as in the beautiful cities of Saumur and Angers. Just ask us.
And there are many large and small wine-caves where you can taste and, of course, buy wine. We have several tips for this too.
Activities
*** The Loire Valley is a Unesco World Heritage site. One of only six in France ***
- Discover Loire castles, abbeys, historic towns and local markets.
The Loire Valley has a rich history of more than 2,000 years. The famous Loire castles are built around the river. Especially famous are the chateaux (castles) built during the Renaissance. Some well-known Loire chateaux that are easy to visit from us are: Saumur, Villandry (with its famous gardens), Fort Chinon, Angers, Brissac, Ussé, Azay-le-Rideau, and Abbey de Fontevraud (once the largest abbey complex in Europe).
But the historic towns are also fun to explore (Angers, Saumur, Le Mans). Many towns have festivals and activities in the summer months, Saumur has a big morning market on Saturdays, and every 2nd Sunday of the month in Montsoreau there is a big bric-a-brac market along the overs of the Loire river.
*** Activities: cycling - zoo - up the river - sporting activities? ***
- Get active in the Loire Valley? Famous is the 'loire a velo', with no less than 800 km of cycling tracks. We have several great cycling routes available and know locations to rent bikes.
- Going to the zoo? A special setting has bioparc Zoo de Doue in the old chalk quarries creating a multi-level zoo.
- A botanical garden that is not boring but is a great discovery garden for children and parents? The famous Terra Botanica in Angers comes highly recommended.
- Up the Loire river? That's fine by canoe. Or take a boat trip on the Loire in a traditional Cabanne or boat.
- Or close to us, a morning climbing high among the trees in the forests of Brion?
- Visit an extraordinary theme park: Puy de Fou is a 1.5-hour drive from us, but absolutely worth it because of the beautiful spectacles they give. One of the top parks in Europe.
*** Visit Anjou and discover Loire wine ***
The 'val de Loire' is France's third largest wine region. Its temperate climate and fertile land have created an extensive variety of wines. We ourselves are enthusiastic about the Crémaints: made according to the 'method Champagne'.
You can discover the wines in the well-known wineries (e.g. in the Ackerman caves near Saumur) or by following a wine route in the beautiful surroundings. Of course, we also have tips for good small wineries in the area. Here you can walk in and taste the wine and atmosphere yourself.
*** Golf ***
Of course you can choose from many golf courses in this Loire region. Close to us are the golf courses of Bauge, Saumur, and Angers.
*** Horse riding / Le Cadre Noir / museum ***
- France's most famous horse dressage school is in Saumur: Le Cadre Noir. During the summer months, the show can be visited once or twice a month.
- In Saumur, there is a museum of the Cavelery.
- And if you want to ride horses yourself in the area, we have nice contacts with an equestrian centre near us (Brion).

This gite can only be booked on a weekly basis in the middle and high season (Sat-Sat). For the low season it can be flexible (in consultation).
Swimming pool is opened depending on the season.
On the estate of La Mothaye are, besides the holiday house advertised here: a second gite Le Grand Verger (2-5p), in the chateau two studios (2-3p) and two castle flats (1-5p).

Basic final cleaning is compulsory, linen and towels included.
Option: pool towels are not included, but can be rented for 2.50 each.
Gite must be left tidy on departure (fridge empty, dishwasher empty, oven clean, rubbish out, etc.).
Pool opening is seasonal.
Rental in mid- and high season is on a weekly basis, changeover day is Saturday.
Electricity not included: 0.35 per kwh. to be settled on the spot (price depends on current rates).
