The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some agricultural activity

This from the 19th century, completely restored very spacious and characteristic detached and lotto farmhouse is equipped with all comforts and luxury. (This house is completely detached on 10 000 m2 of land and forest and thus guarantees a maximum of privacy, we live at a distance of 15 km, further lives or stays there is no one on the site). Also, the garden is completely enclosed by a natural fence and is lockable with a gate. We rent this house also with a beautiful private pool (8x4 meters with terrace), this pool is only for you and your family. So you have complete privacy and you don't have to share the pool with anyone else. It is a completely private holiday home. Usually this is different. (There are also sunbeds at the pool)

The interior walls of the living room of 45 m2 are "pierre jaune" (yellow stone walls) further, the very spacious living room has an oak ceiling with beams and a light tiled floor. In addition, there is an authentic lottoise fireplace, equipped with a large wood stove. There is also central heating for the colder periods. A widescreen colour television with HD and with satellite reception. You can receive all Dutch and also 150 foreign channels. There is also a stereo system with CD player and a DVD player with children's films (including cartoons) and feature films available.

In the living room you will also find a fully equipped recently installed new kitchen with large refrigerator, built-in oven with built-in stove, coffee machine, Senseo, kettle, microwave, dishwasher and an extractor, etc.

The living room leads you through large doors, in the garden with large 2nd terrace, where you directly have the morning sun.

From the living room you enter the first large bedroom with a double bed (160x200), a wardrobe and an oak parquet floor. Through the first long corridor that you also reach from the living room you can reach two other bedrooms. The second spacious bedroom has a large double bed (180x200) and a linen closet (hang/leg). At the end of this long corridor is the third spacious bedroom. Here are two beds. A bed 90x200 and a 2-bed 140x200. Also here you will find a linen closet. All beds have duvets, good mattresses and slats.

The two corridors that you reach through the long hallway, bring you to the spacious utility room with washing machine, a new freezer and ironing board with iron and the bathroom. The latter has a fixed washbasin, walk-in shower, bidet and bathtub (200 litre hot water boiler).
The sanitary and tiles are white. The toilet has recently been completely renovated and has been tiled again with Provencal lavender blue tiles.
Under the house is a garage where you can park your car. Furthermore, the farmhouse is completely underground (for placement of bicycles, luggage cart, etc.) On the various terraces are garden chairs and garden tables. There is also a stone barbecue and parasol.

The department le Lot is situated in the Quercy. This is a region that borders on the Périgord (to the north) and the Auvergne (to the east). In the south the Quercy borders the Armagnac. Our house lies a little north of the river Lot, an area also called the haut Quercy.

It is a border area and that makes the area all the more interesting. The "Causse" an undulating limestone plain formed by the sea on the west side and at the beginning the "Massif Central" The mountain country is formed from the magma on the east side.

All this offers a great variety of landscapes and culture. The climate is influenced on one side by the Atlantic Ocean and on the south side by the Pyrenees. The mountainous country to the east also has its influence.

All this makes for a weather characterised by warm summers and mild winters. Spring can arrive as early as the beginning of March, while autumn can last until the end of October.

The so-called wind chill factor is considerably higher here than in other parts of the south of France. This is partly due to the fact that this area is located in the lee of the Pyrenees, so there is relatively little wind. At the most there is a mistral wind at noon, but this gives a delicious coolness in summer.

Because of this lee, the autumn here is certainly unique, the leaves mainly rot from the trees while in the north they are blown off the trees by various autumn storms. The colouring here is really very special.

The department of Lot is known for its cosy country restaurants, and it is said that this is one of the better kitchens of France. The kitchen has many specialties, such as "Confit de Canard" and "Magret de Canard". Furthermore, the Lot is known for its delicious pastries and world famous nut cakes.

The valley of the Lot river is very rich in nature and culture. After Paris, this is the oldest area of France and recently (end of 1999) caves were found in this area. (end 1999) caves from prehistoric times have been found here. One can find hundreds, if not thousands of different insects, flowers, fossils and birds in this area.

This impressive nature will certainly guarantee you a very relaxing holiday in the most beautiful region of France.
There is also the possibility of making very beautiful and culturally interesting walks. One of those walks will take you to the world famous castle "Chateau Bonnaquill".

You can also make several walks from the house on old pilgrim paths (which also go to Santiago de Compostella). At a distance of 3 kilometres from the house you will also find the remains of an old pilgrim church. The flora and fauna you will certainly get to know of Europe's "most beautiful" country

Restaurants, food & wine

Puy L'Eveque is also worth a visit. The world famous wine city of Cahors is only 40 minutes away. A very pleasant Bougondian city, which is especially inviting to visit during the week. From the farms there are several possibilities for walking through hiking trails which are indicated by means of various colours. Some are up to 20 km long and pass through several vineyards, while others are shorter. Walking maps you can buy at the tourist office in Fumel (Departement Lot et Garonne), otherwise in Puy L'Eveque. (Departement Le Lot).

A visit to the world famous city of Rocamadour and the many caves in the area is highly recommended.

There is the possibility to visit the wine houses, where this area is rich of. You can also go to the many wine Chateau's to get a Vin du Table or a Vin de Cahors. In the immediate vicinity you will find dozens of wine houses.

Activities

In the village Montcabrier (1000 meters) is a bakery where you can also obtain the first necessities of life. You can also in Montcabrier free use of the tennis courts. (intended for residents and tenants) At a distance of eight kilometres you will find the town, Fumel. Here everything is available: including several large supermarkets, bakeries etc. The river Lot also runs along this town and upstream you will find the village "Duravel" (Vire sur Lot). Here you can rent canoes, bicycles, mountain bikes etc. There is also the possibility of an organised tour, with a guide. In Prayssac and Puy l'évêque are several nice restaurants where you can eat well and there is a nice market around the church on Saturday.

You can go horseback riding nearby with a riding school that organises tours, also at a distance of 15 minutes. A golf course can be found at 5 minutes driving distance, 9 holes.
