Surroundings

Les Hirondelles is located in Southern Brittany.

Being close to the coastal town of Vannes, there is a micro-climate which means the weather is generally warmer and there is less rain than in Northern Brittany.

Although, essentially a rural area, the large towns of Vannes and Rennes are only 40 minutes drive away.

Enjoy the slow, slow pace of life where a two hour lunch break is still obligatory!.

Restaurants, food & wine

Come and explore Southern Brittany and discover its medieval towns, miles of white sandy beaches and bustling markets.

Visit Vannes and stroll through the quant cobbled streets and explore all of the specialist artisanal shops--- window shopping at its best. There are restaurants and cafes in abundance but be warned.....the menus are all so good it's impossible to choose.

Nearby, the huge stunning bay of the Golfe du Morbihan has hundreds of little islands and clean white sandy beaches. The area is a protected bird haven. Hire binoculars from the sanctuary and watch the birds from specially constructed hides in the nearby marshlands.

Take a short boat trip to the Ile aux Moins and explore the twisty paths and ancient buildings. Order oysters or mussels on the quay and soak up the atmosphere of a real fishing port.

Walking is so easy in Brittany. Forest walks, tow paths, disused railways or signposted walks, it is all right here. Our neighbouring village is home to some mysterious standing stones, and the forest that surrounds them is a maze of intriguing paths and tracks.

A 30-minute drive (24km) will take you to the very heart of the Brocéliande Forest. Here you will be immersed in nature, stories and legends. You will follow in the footsteps of Knight Lancelot and the Enchanter Merlin and discover more about the fairies Viviane and Morgane. The Brocéliande forest is really a place where you can dream and imagine what it was like in the time of King Arthur.

Don't forget the food........Where else in the world can you enjoy an excellent three course lunch for €15. There are plenty of local restaurants all serving traditional cuisine.

Activities

  • Near riding
  • Fishing
