Trips from your holiday home

From your holiday you can make day-trips to bastides  Penne, Cordes-sur-Ciel, Saint-Sulpice, Mazamet, Pampelonne, Puycelsi and Castelnau-de-Montmiral. Walking, cycling and horse riding can be done at Lac du Laouzas south of Barre, and through Vallée du Gijou and the town of Viane. Fôret de Sivens is situated near bastide Lisle-sur-Tarn. Visit one of the largest squares with a gallery in the south-west of France and beautiful half-timbered houses.

Activities in Tarn

A pleasant walk is the ‘Les tourelles’ along menhirs in Monts de Lacaune. These are in the regional nature park Haut-Languedoc, just as Montagne Noire and the granite plateau of Sidobre. No less than fourteen mountain bike trails have been laid out on the Ségala plateau. An excellent place for canoeing and kayaking the winding Tarn river with an impressive gorge east of Albi.

Landscape around your holiday home

Little Tuscany is what this gently rolling landscape around the department’s capital and birth town of painter Toulouse-Lautrec is called. Visit the museum dedicated to the painter and the Sainte-Cécile cathedral. Interesting museums can also be found in picturesque Castres in Pays d’Autan: the Goya Museum with Spanish Art and the Jean Jaurès National Centre dedicated to this famous French socialist. Fiac  has several art galleries.

Gaillac wines

France’s oldest wine region is around Gaillac. The Maison des Vins organises wine tastings here. The Musée des Beaux-Arts, the Musée Philadelphe Thomas with over 15,000 insects, birds minerals and fossils, and the 10th-century  abbey church Saint-Michel with its stained glass  windows are just some of the sights here.

Specialities from the Tarn

Enjoy the end of a day on the terrace of your holiday home with some of the delicious regional products from the farmers market such as duck, fricandeau, wine and pink garlic from the beautifully situated bastide Lautrec.
