Towns in Landes

Important towns in Landes are department capital Mont-de-Marsan, with festivities in July and where sculpture takes an important place, and Dax. Here you can admire Cathédrale Notre Dame and the bullfighting arena dating from 1913. This is also a spa town, like Eugénie-les-Bains.

Gastronomy

For specialities such as ‘gras’ from duck, chicken, dorade, asparagus, venison, eau-de-vie you can go the the market in Aire-sur-l’Adour or Peyrehorade, on the Gave de Pau River. Montfort-en-Chalosse used to be a stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. Other beautiful bastides are Saint-Justin and Labastide d’Armagnac, where you can see a collection of racing bicycles and jerseys from the Tour de France on display in a chapel. Near Basque country is Tarnos which has an annual jazz festival.
