Holiday home in quiet nature location

In the Pyrenees national park, for instance in the cauldron shaped valley Cirque de Gavarnie, you can see all sorts of special plants and animals such as chamois, marmots, lynx, brown bears, bearded vultures and peregrine falcons. You enter the park via the old Pont d’Espagne near spa town and ski resort Cauterets. Victor Hugo and George Sand were visitors of this town. Other beautiful natural areas are nature reserve Néouvielle, Pic du Midi and Col du Tourmalet.

Sights

Pilgrimage Lourdes is visited by millions of people every year who commemorate the apparitions of the Virgin Maria before peasant girl Bernadette Soubirous. You can also visit Château Fort here with its botanical garden. In the pretty spa town Luz-Saint-Sauveur, also known as Luz, a jazz festival is held every summer. Nearby is the 47 metre high bridge Pont Napoléon, built under Napoleon III. A tango festival is organised in the capital of the department every year; Tarbes. This is also a good place for shopping or enjoy the old Jardin Massey, a garden landscaped by and old head gardener of Versailles.

Sports and activities

Beautiful walks and horse riding during your holiday is possible from Azet to Ens and near Bun, the Col du Soulour and Lac d’Estaing. Or what about climbing, rafting or canoeing from your holiday-home? Pinas has a golf course with views of the Pic du Midi. The Ourse near Sarp is an ideal fishing sport. And in winter the Pyrenees have twelve good winter sport areas: skiing, snowboarding and cross- country skiing.

Gastronomy

Hautes-Pyrénées cuisine has plenty to offer and enjoy such as duck, foie gras, Tome cheese, Garbure soup and gâteau à la broche for dessert.
