Two friends and I stayed at La Blatiere for a long weekend. We stayed in the Farmhouse - the accomodation was lovely and we enjoyed the wonderful porch area, for breakfast and dinner dinning and sitting watching the fairy lights come on around the property as it goes dark, magical!!! Paul and Lesley couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming - they are great hosts. The courtyard layout lets you enjoy the sun and pool, which is very well maintained, but also allows for privacy. Perfect location for a relaxing family holiday or like us for a long weekend - highly recommend it!
The McFarlands from Edinburgh, Scotland,
Exceeded our expectations - will be back
What a gorgeous place! Stayed in the Farmhous gite with two friends for a girlie weekend. My bedroom (the double on the ground floor) was sooooo cosy and the bed was ultra comfy. The rooms were full of charachter - next time we want to light the wood burning stove - and the outside covered dining space was also just divine, so picturesque. We ate outside the whole time, croissants for breakfast and cheese and French bread (as you do) for lunch and dinner. Living the French dream! At night , it was so pretty with fairy lights. The pool was just perfect - in the middle of the courtyard so it was only a few stepping stones away from the door, with comfy sun loungers for relaxing . We cycled to L'Absie, the nearby little village, for coffee and cakes and there's a supermarket there with everything you need. The owner's Paul and Lesley provided the bikes and we had great fun - the country lanes are virtually traffic free so you feel really safe - looking forward to coming back with my family and i'd feel happy for my 11 year old to cycle on the roads with us. There's also loads to do in the area which i'll do with the family in the future. Looking forward to visiting La Rochelle on a day trip too. The gite is easy to get to too, just about an hour and a half by hire car from Nantes airport, and the roads are easy (not too busy). Lesley and Paul were wonderful hosts - they'd though of everything in the gite and you could tell a lot of care had gone into the place to make it comfortable and a lovely place to stay. Came back ultra relaxed, a fab weekend away. Can't wait to go back.
Susan Anderson from Edinburgh, Scotland,
I can't think of anywhere better to relax or explore...
This is the first Gite style holiday for me in rural France and I wasn't sure what to expect. But from the moment we arrived in La Blatiere everything was just perfect. The farmhouse was well equipped both inside and out. The outdoor eating area where we spent much of our time was just stunning, lit with fairy lights on an evening, wysteria covered and cool in the day. The best place to enjoy a cup of tea and listen to birsdsong in the morning. The surrounding countryside was fantastic for cycling or walking and a good place to meet the locals...donkeys, horses, cows, sheep and Gordon the jack russell dog. The wee local town had everything you could possible need - a supermarket, boulangerie, bars and restaurants. And you're a stones throw from many stunning historic towns too. We went to Vouvant, a 20 minute drive away. A picture postcard French town. To be fair the pictures don't do La Blatiere justice. We loved every minute. A massive hit for all three of us. La Blatiere is definitely somewhere I will return to.
Brian, Jan, Dai, Natalie, Poppy & Oscar from Swansea, Wales,
We will all be back!
A total family of 10 sharing both properties (The Farmhouse & The Stables). Paul and Lesley have been perfect hosts and extremely helpful. Paul had a great deal of patience explaining the workings of of the plantroom and pool to our very curious son Oscar! The children loved feeding the cows and shaking the apple tree for apples. It was a home from home in a lovely quiet setting. We will be back at somepoint and the grand parents will be popping in to stay on there next trip to France early next year. Good luck to you both with your new venture. Dioich (thank you both)
