The house is located in a hamlet called La Capelanie . It has five houses, of which three are holiday homes . Two houses are permanently occupied by two French couples . It lies on a hill opposite Lagarde Viaur , a delightful medieval town , you can hear its bell toll every hour. The rustling of the river is also audible. Now and then a tractor passes, or the car from 'la poste ' .
La Capelanie belongs to the municipality St.André the Najac which is located on the edge of the department of Aveyron . Basically it's a cross- point of three departments : the Tarn , Tarn - et - Garonne and Aveyron . Our house is located in a valley , surrounded by a chestnut- and oak forest , in the summer you can find mushrooms. The region is agricultural andand therefore pleasant. . On top of the hill you can see the Pyrenees on a clear day, a magical experience when you know that these are 250-350 km away , the Montagnes Noires are more often visible ( and closer) . In the area there are beautiful towns like Najac , Cordes - sur - Ciel , Sauveterre de Rouergue . A little further away Cahors , Saint Cirq Lapopie, Figeac . Naucelle has Chateau du Bosc , the large family home of the painter Toulouse Lautrec . The river Viaur has a bridge built by Eiffel . At Millau you can admire the new bridge over the Tarn ( 3 hours drive ) .

Restaurants, food & wine

The Aveyron region is known for it local specialties which you will find on the market in Villefranche de Rouergue, a bastide town north of Saint André de Najac, a twenty minutes drive. Thursday it is the Jour du Marché (Market day) when the large regional market is held, with lots of produce and goods on offer. In summer you will still find girolles, wild strawberries, black currants and truffels here. A true French experience! There are many different types of restaurants such as a crêperie down by the river Viaur and specialty restaurant l'Oustal del Barry in Najac. The food is incredible here. For a good and affordable meal go to Relais Mont le Viaur, with Sébastien and Christine; they also run the 'Epicerie' for your baguette and paper in the morning. Don't trip over the large collection of wines; Sebastien likes to serve his guests a good glass but he also likes to give you advice. La Fouillade has a wonderful baker's, Delmur, for delicious pastries and really good bread (also brown bread nowadays.)

The area invites you to be active; walking, swimming in the river, fly fishing, canoeing, and there is a climbing wall at Bor et Bar, a tennis court in the village, cycling or mountain biking (bring your own bikes), horse riding in the area of Najac. The house has a large pool with terrace, good for swimming a fews lengths and then return to your sun chair and a good book. It is a place for active people but also for tranquility.

Further remarks

When reading this ad your holiday to France has already begun: it is not just a trip to the South of France but a journey back in time! No television, though nowadays there is internet, a dish washer and a washing machine, a romantic home with good beds, a functional kitchen, a cosy sitting area with fire place, a library with current titles, a swimming pool with good dimensions, in short a place perfect to relax. At dawn the valley is still covered with wisps of mist, but the promise of another hot day is in the air. BIrds of prey are circling through the hills and in the evening you can hear the sound of an owl or cuckoo. The milky way appears at the sky as a white ribbon with thousands of stars. In summer there are always plenty of activiteis in the surrounding villages, from a village fest to a 'randonnee' followed by a meal or concert.
If you want to visit a city then Albi is only an hour away and Toulouse an hour and a half.
Just live the life, feel at home and leave completely recharged: you have experienced the ' real ' France.

in 1 woord "geweldig"! What you see is what you get!

Beviel allemaal zeer goed. Groot fijn zwembad, grote tuin en mooi uitzicht over de vallei. Hier helemaal tot rust gekomen.
