Holiday home in France
The gite has been beautifully renovated to a high standard. There is a comfortable living room with sofa and two chairs, satellite TV, CD/radio. The kitchen/dining is open plan and fully equipped with a microwave, gas oven, fridge, table and 4 chairs.
Also on the ground floor is the bathroom with power shower, toilet and hand basin. Upstairs there is a large sunny bedroom with fabulous views of the countryside. It is well furnished with a double bed, double sofa bed, wardrobe, dressing table, and leads onto the terrace. The terrace has a table and chairs and a barbecue and is very sunny with lovely views.
This year there is also a new self-contained bed/sitting room on the lower ground floor suitable for a second couple or older children.
Please note that there is no interior access from the lower ground floor to the upper gite.

The gite is nestled in a valley between 2 historic 11th century castles which flank the village of Fenouillet. There are stunning views of the luscious countryside from the terrace. All around is unspoiled landscape; mountains, rivers, gorges and waterfalls on the doorstep.An ideal location for country lovers looking for activities such as walking, riding, cycling on the numerous well-marked trails. It is also perfect for those who just want to relax in the sun and observe the wonderful wildlife and enjoy the occasional trip to the unspoilt beaches on the coast.

Restaurants, food & wine
There are several good restaurants all within half an hour of the gite including two with Michelin stars. Locally there is an auberge in St Martin and a very nice restaurant in Caudies, both within a 10’ drive. For a casual meal, drink or snack there is a lovely bar at the little campsite which is a 10’ walk from the village.
The area is on the Languedoc Roussillon wine trail and there are vineyards with caves open for tastings in all the main villages.
There are walks and cycle tracks everywhere from the front door. 10’ away at Fosse there is a beautiful swimming pool, or just 15’ walk is an unspoilt swimming lake. There is also a private pool in the garden which may be accessed by special arrangement.
Sporting activities within an easy drive include white water rafting, canoeing and canyoning, in the stunning rivers and gorges.
Horse riding and cycling for all levels along forest tracks that meander through the hills, and follow clear mountain streams ideal for cooling off. A naturalists paradise, the area is famous for its well-marked walking trails to suit all levels of fitness and many of these commence from our front door! From these you can observe the abundant flora and fauna, notably butterflies, wild orchids, eagles and other beautiful flowers and birds.
An hours drive away is the unspoilt windswept coast line where you can wander over the dunes and find a naturists beach, In the winter the ski slopes are less than an hours drive away and free of the huge lift queues experienced in the Alps. There is also great cross-country skiing.
There are stunning Cathar castles to explore, notably Peyreperteuse, Queribus and
Puilarens. At Tautavel is a fascinating museum dedicated to pre-historic man and you can view the ongoing archaeological dig on giant web screens.
The area is famous for some fine examples of roman architecture such as the aqueduct at Ansignan, the abbey at Serrabonne and the thermal baths at Rennes le Bains where you can bathe all year round. Perpignan, the very Spanish capital of the region, is an hours drive and the beautiful medieval walled city of Carcassone 1 hour 20 minutes.
Just south of Perpignan is the quaint historic town of Ceret, home to many famous
impressionist artists who are exhibited in the museum of modern art. Also for art lovers is the beautiful fishing village of Collioure, birthplace of Fauvism, or the Dali museum at Figueres just across the Spanish border and enjoy lunch on the Spanish coast just a 1 hr 30 min drive from Fenouillet.
The Languedoc Roussillon is now the largest wine growing region of France and there
are numerous vineyards offering the opportunity to taste the many wonderful varieties of wine on offer.

Within a 15 minute drive is St Paul with a large supermarket, garage, shops and
restaurants plus a Saturday market. 25 minutes west is the pretty market town of Quillan which is bustling with restaurants, shops, bars and a large supermarket complex. There is a market here every Wednesday and Saturday.
