The house
OLIVE is actually a cluster of two apartments together ( suitable for 2 families or groups traveling together ) . They can each comfortably sleep up to 6 people . There are 2 bedrooms in each apartment - They each have one double room and one twin room plus a large comfortable sofa bed in the lounge area .
Bathrooms: 2 Shower rooms en-suite, & 1 Separate WC in each apartment
Kitchens: Oven, Hob, Microwave, Fridge-Freezer, Dishwasher, Toaster, Kettle, Coffee maker, Washing machine.
Apartment Cerise is on the ground floor. It has a large private terrace to the side . Directly overhead on the first floor is Apartment Fleur . The balcony of Fleur is overhead the terrace of Cerise so it is ideal for 2 groups / 2 families.
Linen and Towels are provided in both apartments.
Central Heating. There is no air-conditioning required as the walls are solid stone & approximately 1 metre thick. Because of this the building stays cool in Summer & remains warm during the normally mild Winter months.
Free WiFi internet, UK satellite TV channels & radio stations as well as digital French TV. .
Shared outdoor spaces: Outside we have a large 12m x 6m swimming pool with a shallow kids area , sun loungers, tables, chairs & parasols. The pool area is fully fenced & gated to ensure child safety at all times. Our pool is open from early May until October. There is also a pool house with comfortable seating.

For over a century & a half La Bastide des Lavandieres has been a prominent feature in the small village of Canaules . Originally constructed in 1850 it has had a few different & diverse existenses during the intervening years . At various times during the 170 years or so it has been here the building has served the village as both a small hotel , a cafe & during the 50's & 60's - a chique French nightclub . Canaules is now a quiet village but during this period it was actually known as "The Saint-Tropez of the Cevennes" Among some of the high profile personalities who performed there was the French Elvis - Johnny Hallyday . He may not be widely known outside of France but he had over 50 years of a career in music & now even after his death in 2017 he is still one of France's biggest selling recording artists having sold in excess of 100 million records . Other famous French singers performed in Canaules also including Jacques Brel , Francoise Hardy & Charles Aznavour . So keep in mind during your stay that you will be sharing a space that was previously occupied by some of the most famous singers ever .

Restaurants, food & wine
Every village in the area has at least one 'wine cave' sometimes 2 or 3. There are a number of very nice restaurants nearby including our own recently opened village cafe 'Le Canaules' which serves very good food & is less than a minute's walk from your apartment . A 15 minute drive will bring you to the lovely tourist town of Anduze. Anduze is known as the gateway to the Cevennes and it has a number of reasonably priced family restaurants along both sides of the main street as well as some real gems hidden among it's narrow side streets . For a special night out a visit to the award winning restaurant - Les Secrets de Celine just a 10 minute drive away in Lézan is definitely not to be missed . At the other end of the culinary scale there are many fast food & cheaper restaurants / cafés just 10 minutes further on in Alés . For families with young children a visit to the Buffalo Grill just on the edge of Alés never disappoints . Local markets are a great place to buy fresh fruit and vegetables, as are the local road-side stalls. Visit the markets, of Úzes , Sommières, Quissac, and St Jean du Gard for a taste of 'la vraie France'.
Activities
La Bastide des Lavandieres is in the centre of the small village of Canaules at the foothills of the Cevennes . Nearby you will find many activities including hiking trails , horse riding , river swimming , golf , wine tasting etc . A short drive will take you into the Cevennes mountains where you will find all of the usual mountain sports activities . We are located on the cross-roads at the centre of the village just beside our village café - 'Le Canaules' . We are located in the heart of the Languedoc wine producing region at the edge of the Cevennes national park and close to the medieval towns of Anduze, Sauve, and Vezenobres. Canaules is 30 minutes from Nîmes & 45 minutes from Montpellier. Ales which is just a 15 minute drive away has all of the shopping & entertainment options you would find in any large city of it's size . It has a lovely river beach open throughout the Summer as well. Nimes , Montpellier & Marseilles are just 3 of the cities which are easily reached as well as the beaches on the coast . In Winter the skiing in the Cevennes is within reach also. The Ski resort of Prat Peyrot – Mont Aigoual is a 90 minute drive while the other Cevennes ski resort of Bleymard Mont Lozère is just a 2 hour drive away.

Apartments Cerise & Fleur are two of six apartments in our recently renovated 19th century Bastide. We are happy to accept group bookings from families / groups traveling together .
The Cevennes, offer river swimming, kayaking, hiking and other outdoor activities.
Canaules is a typical French village - small but full of character . It is close to a number of larger villages & small towns as well as numerous vineyards - many of which welcome visitors . Guests are very welcome to come & visit our friends the Plagne family at the nearby Domaine de la Vallière and also the Chardonnaud family at Domaine les Vieux Foudres . Both vineyards are delighted to welcome our guests for tastings , tours etc . In fact most of our many local vineyards are happy to have visitors . Almost all of them sell direct to the public also .
