The house

Our former winery 'Le Trabet' offers three luxurious gites : 'Le Palmier ' for 4-6 persons, 'Le Laurier ' for 6 persons' and 'L'Olivier' for 8 persons. The property is located in the South of France, the Languedoc-Roussillon region, not far from Carcassonne, the Mediterranean sea, the Pyrenees and Spain.
LE LAURIER is a beautifully renovated house (125m2) with two floors where the winemaker ('regisseur') used to live. Central heating.
The house has its own entrance via the terrace on the side of the garden, to be reached via a side path and a second access via the courtyard.
* Ground Floor. The living/dining room with fire place has a seating area on the garden side and next to the open plan kitchen is the dining area.
French doors give acces to the garden terrace (south facing) which overlooks the swimming pool and the chestnut trees, planes and lush laurel hedges .
A second terrace is located in the courtyard. Both terraces have tables with chairs, parasols, barbecue and sun chairs.
* Original and easily accessible stairs in downstairs hall (with separate toilet)
* First floor with spacious landing, some of the walls have been restored to their original state (’pierres apparantes’).
On the first floor are three bedrooms (each 18m2) with comfortable beds, wardrobes and chairs.
Furthermore a large bathroom with bathtub, shower, heated towel rack and double wash basin.
The separate toilet upstairs is located close to the bedrooms.
Next to the terrace is a large and tastefully furnished covered terrace with a dining table seating 12, which our guests may use for festive dinners.

Surroundings

Domaine du Trabet, 14 hectares, is surrounded by vineyards and agriculture (corn one year, sunflowers the next). The buildings are located around a large courtyard, partly covered (table tennis and other games)
About a hundred metres from the gites is the large 'cave' where they used to make wine.
The pool (7 by 14 m ) goes up to 1.50m deep and is very suitable for children. With its large terraces and poolhouse with surrounding trees for shade it provides a very pleasant place to stay in summer.
Our guests can also use the tennis court in the village close by, and there are a number of mountainbikes and golfclubs, tennis rackets and jeu de boules balls available.
From Le Trabet you walk straight into the vineyards. The foothills of the Montagnes Noires start nearby and are a good bike ride.
Shops can be found in the two neighbouring villages (a few minutes by car): bakers, butchers, grocer, supermarket, post office.
Carcassonne (10 minutes by car) has several large supermarchés and in the town centre and the Cité lots of nice shops, cafés and restaurants.

Restaurants, food & wine

WIne culture plays an important role in Languedoc and Aude. The second most important wine area in Aude are Minervois and Corbières, which now produce excellent wines , both still affordable. If you are a wine lover you should leave some space in your car to take home a few boxes. The winemakes will welcome you with open arms. We are happy to advise you.
At local markets you can buy fresh vegetables and meat, straight from the farmer. In summer several local festivities take place, mostly around food and drink, such as 'Fêtes de Truffes, d’Agneau , du Vin.'
Good restaurants both low-price and high-end, can be found everywhere.

Activities

Departement Aude is known for its many medieval towns, Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi were placed on the World Heritage Site by Unesco. Besides the many Cathar castles you will also find numerous fortified villages ('bastides') such as Mirepoix, Limoux, Minerve and several impressive abbeys (Lagrasse, Fontfroide, St. Papoul). All certainly worth a visit as well as Rennes-le-Chateau which is featured in the Da Vinci Code.
Watersport lovers can go to the Mediterranean sea side with its wide sandy beaches (about an hour by car ), lakes and -wild- rivers (kayak) in southern Aude.
For the enjoyment of nature and walking or hiking Aude is a true ' petit paradis' . One can walk in the neighbouring, protected Parc Régional de Languedoc with its beautiful, vast forests and hills, in the lovely nature of the Corbières and in the Pyrenees.
A stay at 'Le Trabet' will give you a combination of relaxing and being active. Relaxing in the gîte, around the house and the pool, in the cosy restaurants and on the coast. Activities: visiting historic towns, local markets and village festivities. But also unrivaled walks, picnics, cycling trips and horse riding in the quiet (even in summer) and unspoiled nature surrounding our property.
Ideal conditions for a successful holiday.

We (parents and two guys 16/19 years) had a lovely holiday at Le Trabet, close to Carcassonne!

The gite Le Laurier has the comfort of home, and the luxury of holiday. Everything we needed was there, and if not, then there was Claudia with friendly, good and quick helpouts. And nice conversations.

We enjoyed the peacefulness of the domaine, with even nice possibilities to sit and meditate.
The comfortable and clean pool was a hit fot both us and the boys.

Would love to come back!

A charming property in the middle of a beautiful and quite countryside. Everything in Le Trabet is impressively spacious, confortable and immaculate: the bedrooms and bathrooms, the very well equipped kitchen and the large living room. Everything is as good as it looks in the photographs. There's also a magnificent swimming pool, a huge park and even a real barbecue place!Whether by walking, hiking, bike (provided) or vehicle, exploring the area is just exciting and there are lots of wonderful spots to discover not very far away, starting with Carcassonne, the fortified city on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
I would most certainly recommend this property to my friends.

A fabulous and peaceful getaway! I spent nearly a week at Le Trabet and could not recommend a place any more! The property is absolutely gorgeous and furnished with taste, the owners are kind and extremely invested in the property and making sure guests have the best stay possible, and the nearby towns are accessible and quaint. There is enough to do both on and outside the property (not to mention a great pool!). Stay here if you want to truly experience countryside France!

One visit is not enough!
We spent a week at Le Trabet in late July of this year. It was superb. Claudia was a warm and gracious hostess. The gites were large and comfortable. Lots of space to spread out. The kitchen and bathrooms were spacious and modern. The grounds and surrounding countryside are peaceful and quintessential French countryside. You can ramble out the back for forty kilometres. The pool was well used by us and our two children. We met some really interesting travellers, and enjoyed every minute at Le Trabet. I hope to go back some time in the not too distant future.

A wonderful two weeks

We had a wonderful two weeks at Le Trabet, and really enjoyed everything the region had to offer. Le Trabet and the pool were great, with beautiful clean and well equipped gites. We'd love to come back sometime!
