The house
You enter La Madeleine through the cosy Burgundian kitchen with Jotul "cuisinière" . This is a wood stove that not only heats the kitchen, but can also be used for cooking and baking. Many tenants have already gone before you and prepared the most delicious dishes in it. The kitchen is equipped with all the necessary utensils (refrigerator, inventory, 4-burner cooker with oven, microwave, etc.). Through the kitchen you enter the living room with two lovely canapés where you can read a book by the second wood stove. From the salon, an internal wooden staircase leads to the spacious upper floor. Here you will find a landing, the bathroom with toilet, washbasin and a combined shower and bathtub, and the spacious bedroom. The bedroom has a double bed with box spring mattress. From the Velux skylight you have a nice view over the fields at the back. Through the French doors there is access to an authentic natural stone outside staircase. The latter leads to the front garden. In addition to the two wood-burning stoves, there is an electric wall heater in every room. At the front of the gîte is a small garden with gravel in which you can enjoy a glass of wine and a piece of cheese.

La Madeleine is located in the hamlet with the beautiful name "Les Bois de la Madeleine". You walk straight from this hamlet into the woods, hills and fields. Vézelay itself is only a few kilometres from the cottage and has been declared a world heritage site by Unesco. Vézelay is located on "la colline éternelle" (the eternal hill), as it is popularly known. Vézelay is also on the list of "Les plus beaux villages de France". At the very top of the hill is an imposing basilica. The rest of the area is characterised by hills, forests, lakes and rivers. There are extensive possibilities for hiking, mountain biking, water sports, swimming and fishing. You will also find yourself in the middle of a wine-growing area (this is Burgundy, after all!). Vézelay is also situated at the northern edge of the Morvan regional park. The Morvan is a vast area full of hills, forests, lakes and rivers. At a somewhat greater distance, you will find large cities such as Auxerre, Autun, Clamecy, Nevers and Dijon. It is nice and flat cycling along the Canal du Nivernais. Some even make a day trip to Paris.
The area has a temperate continental climate. This means that it can be lovely and warm in the summer and the winter can be really wintry.

La Madeleine is een heerlijk huisje, we hebben genoten van ons verblijf. Het is prachtig gelegen, vlakbij Vézelay, een mooie stad, in een rustig gebied aan de rand van De Morvan. Het is een prima wandelgebied, en in de tuin naast en achter het huisje zaten we heerlijk vrij.

Nous avons passé un excellent sejour à 2 au gîte de la Madeleine.
La maison est spacieuse et bien adaptée pour un couple. La cuisine est bien équipée avec gazinière, four micro-onde, toaster et bouilloire. La salle de bain est grande avec une belle baignoire mais malheureusement sans fenêtre.
Le gîte est situé à quelques minutes en voiture de Vézelay dans une région magnifique qui mêle activités nature / sport (lacs, rivières, randos, forêts et monts du Morvan) ainsi que découverte d'un patrimoine magnifique avec de nombreux sites à courte distance en voiture.
Le seul bémol serait de ne pas avoir d'accès direct depuis la maison à un grand espace de jardin privatif. Le jardinet devant la maison est en effet très petit et directement sur la chaussée face aux voisins et l'espace derrière n'est accessible qu'en faisant le tour par l'extérieur. À part cela, nous recommandons fortement le séjour au gîte qui s'avère plein de charme !Els Koning from Den-Haag,

Vézelay has its own appellation contrôlée. On the southern flank of "la colline éternelle" you will find the vines. The other wine-growing regions of Burgundy are also within easy reach. You will also find something to eat: Vézelay itself has several restaurants, from the cheaper to the more expensive price range. In the winter you can dine inside by the fireplace, in the summer you can dine on a terrace overlooking the beautiful woods and hills. In short: you can truly enjoy culinary delights here.
Activities
The hamlet of Les Bois de la Madeleine belongs to the municipality of Vézelay, department of L'Yonne and region of La Bourgogne. Vézelay is located a few kilometres from gîte La Madeleine. Vézelay is an authentic medieval village, built on an impressive hill: La Colline Eternelle, the Eternal Hill. On the flanks of the hill are the vineyards. Vézelay has its own Appellation Contrôlée. Apart from that, Vézelay is all about ambiance: wine cellars, museums, ateliers, atmospheric cafes, a wide range of restaurants and, last but not least, the basilica La Sainte-Marie Madeleine. The area around Vézelay lies at the northern edge of the Regional Nature Park De Morvan. The Morvan is a large nature park that consists of fields, hills, forests, rivers, streams, (dam) lakes, etc. It is a true paradise for nature lovers. A true paradise for nature lovers. Furthermore, there are interesting larger cities in the vicinity: Avallon, Dijon, Nevers, Auxerre, etc.
FOR THE CYCLING ENTHUSIASTS: THERE IS A CYCLING ROUTE OF DOZENS OF KILOMETRES ALONG THE CANAL DU NIVERNAIS. THIS IS A FLAT ROUTE BUILT ON FORMER TOWPATHS. A VERY BEAUTIFUL ROUTE.

Further remarks
The gîte is located in the hamlet of Les Bois de la Madeleine, a stone's throw from Vézelay itself. The hamlet is a so called ribbon village with on both sides of the departmental road buildings with detached houses and behind them mostly deep gardens or arable land. The house is situated on this D-road, there is occasionally traffic, fortunately there is a maximum speed of 30 km/hour. On the other side of the road is a detached house with sheep pasture (the house of the key address). At the front is a small gravel terrace, this is the only piece of garden at your disposal. From the ground floor you only have a view on the front.
