The house
Our gîte la Varenne is in a village of Igornay in the Burgundian French countryside. It has a spacious living room and 3 bedrooms and many original style elements so typical of the houses of the region. There is a spacious garden with a lovely swimming pool behind the holiday home. Here you can relax and enjoy the surroundings. The village of Igornay, 2 km away, has a well-equipped supermarket where fresh bread is also made. Igornay is located next to the Morvan Natural Park, near the wine regions around Beaune and near all kinds of historical sites from Roman times. Just under 15 minutes' drive away is Autun with its many restaurants, medieval streets, Roman buildings and the weekly market in the old historic centre.
Our house has a large living room and three bedrooms. The bathroom and spacious kitchen complete the house. You will find authentic details in every room. The gîte's private garden is adjacent to the swimming pool with terrace. The location of the house is perfect: there is plenty to do and discover in all directions!
Freshen up or just relax for a day at the pool: next to the gîte there is a nice place to lounge. Here you can relax after all the excursions in the area. The cover ensures that the water does not cool down at night, ensuring a pleasant temperature.
The pool is located behind the gite, is fenced for safety and has a lockable gate from the garden of the gite and from the grounds of our house. We and any visitors occasionally use the pool as well.

Just east of the gîte is the Parc National de Morvan, with all kinds of hiking opportunities, beautiful views and many activities. Just south you will find the bustling city of Autun. East of our house is the wine region around Beaune and north of Igornay you will find the town of Arnay-Le-Duc.

The wine regions of Beaune are just under 20 minutes away with many tasting locations. Autun, Beaune, and a little further Dijon offer many good restaurants. But the smaller villages and towns closer by also offer the real French lunch experience.
Activities
Our house in Burgundy is close to the village of Igornay in the Saône et Loire department and borders the large park the Morvan on the west side. Several small towns are nearby: for example, Autun is about a 15-minute drive away. Slightly to the east is the wine region near Beaune, where famous Burgundy wines are made. The village of Igornay itself has a small but excellently stocked supermarket, which is less than a 5-minute drive away. Autun and Arnay-le-Duc have several large supermarkets. Autun has a weekly market, many speciality shops and unique boutiques. There is also a wide choice of restaurants. To the north is the charming town of Arnay-Le-Duc with shops and restaurants.
Igornay lies at the foot of the Morvan hills. Just south of the house is the last ridge of hills followed by the valley towards Autun. The area is great for walks over all kinds of terrain: from long trails to challenging hills. There are views over the countryside both in the woods and on the trails. The area is suitable for cycling towards the nearby villages. With a mountain bike, there are many trails to explore. These trails start a few hundred metres from the cottage. Géoportail.fr gives a very nice picture of this.
An hour's drive away is the big city of Dijon. Beaune is a half-hour drive away and on the way you pass beautiful vineyards. In the villages there are opportunities for a nice wine tasting.
There is an easily accessible amusement park with ample parking half an hour away: Parc des Combes.
Just past Autun, you'll find Uchon. Between the large rock formations from the last ice age, here is a fantastic view towards the Morvan.
In the gîte there are leaflets from the local tourist office with all kinds of sights and activities. At weekends there are often flea markets in the area where you can find real French stuff for little.
The distance from Utrecht is about 720 km. Several routes are possible, and of course we can share our knowledge to recommend the one that best suits your preferences.

It is possible to bring a dog (max 2), by arrangement.
Outside holiday periods, there is a chance that we can shift the changeover day. Please contact us.
Additional price info and offers
Consume gas for central heating or wood for fireplace at cost.
In winter, central heating is of course comfortable, but the costs are relatively high. If the gite is heated by the fireplace, the costs are manageable.
When booking with pets, we will contact you. And we charge an extra cleaning fee of €50.
