The house

  • Completely quiet natural area

Looking for ultimate peace and romance for you and your family/friends? Then look no further! Moulin de Valette is a lovely family home in beautiful surroundings and with a lot of atmosphere. It is a house where infinite love has been put into and where many fine moments have been experienced by young and old. However, it is also a house where the job opportunities are endless, where new cobwebs hang in no time and we are sometimes bothered by a marten in the roof. Moulin de Valette is a unique, loving and beautiful place which is incredibly private on our own lake. Every time, we are enchanted by the deliciousness. If you are the type who can appreciate such a (never finished) rural house, then Moulin de Valette is the place for you.

Moulin de Valette is a characteristic old water mill, built around 1850, which drew its energy from the water of the reservoir on the north-west side of the dyke, in front of the mill. Archaeological finds have recently been made indicating that a mill belonging to a slightly higher castle stood on this spot as early as the Middle Ages. Now it is an imposing large holiday home consisting of; the water mill, miller's house and a small house on the dike. There are also several barns. It is completely free, in a rural setting and has its own grounds of about 12 hectares, of which 5 hectares are private lake. This lake can be used for swimming and fishing.

On the valley side of the house, the mill overlooks the stream valley, which feeds the lake and flows in branches past the mill. This stream valley also belongs to the mill over a length of 1 km.

Moulin de Valette is ideal for holidays with larger groups. For example, a family with children, several families or several generations. Painting courses are also given (contact us for more information) and the house also lends itself perfectly to teambuilding weeks/weekends. Renting is possible throughout the year. Preferably a whole week, but outside the high season it is also possible to rent for a long weekend, for example. During the summer, it is great to have an outdoor BBQ in the evening and enjoy it on the raft on the lake, or by a brazier, until late. In the colder months, you can enjoy the fireplace with a good book and a glass of Burgundy wine.

The buildings consist of:
- The water mill itself with the turbine at the bottom, 4 floors with drive section, mill stone and conveyor belts used to transport the flour and grain. The grain was collected from the floor at the level of the dike with covered bridge to it. In this part, you can set a table to eat here in the evening, for example (with beautiful views over the lake on one side and the valley with its streams on the other), but this is otherwise in original condition and is not inhabited.
- The miller's house with the basement below, the living area with terrace above it and the upper floor we converted into a flat.
- The small house on the dyke with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Sheds, built against the mill.
- Sheds, along the little road that runs over dyke and on the valley side (with satellite dish).

There is a large living kitchen of 45m², with fireplace on the 1st floor of the miller's house. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, kitchen machines and lots of pots, knives, etc. A bedroom and a study/reading room are adjacent to the kitchen. There is also a bathroom here with a small shower and a toilet.

The flat on the 2nd floor (70 m²) has a sitting area with bathroom (with bath), separate toilet and large bedroom (25m²).

There are four bedrooms in the small house; downstairs 3 of 10m² for 2 people, 2 bathrooms (1 bathroom with a bath, the other bathroom has a small shower) and upstairs there is a similar room for 3 or 4 people, and a cosy children's room (2 cots up to 12 years old) .

The water mill itself consists of 4 floors. The mill's 'machinery' is still in its original state.

Pets (dogs, cats) are allowed.

From the holiday home you have a beautiful view over your own lake (north-west) or stream valley (south-east). The house faces two completely different worlds, as it were, the spectacular side of the lake and the subdued romantic side of the valley. Everywhere there are spots where you can enjoy the view of the lake with your deckchair, in total privacy, to read a book or just relax.

The lake's water is tested and perfectly safe for swimming. We have built a small sandy beach at the lake from where you can easily enter the water and where children can play. With small children who cannot swim, it is advisable to bring life jackets and let the children wear them too. There is water everywhere and no possibility of closing off the lake or streams. For very small children, there is the possibility of closing off the sheltered terrace against the house on the south-east side with a children's gate.

There is a large raft (22m²) and a boat with an electric motor. The raft can serve as a jetty for sunbathing, swimming and eating with large groups.

A washing machine and dryer are available.

Bring your own bed linen and towels. We will arrange bed linen and towels for you at an additional cost of EUR 25 per person.
