The house

Domaine Le Besset is a pleasant and welcoming bed and breakfast / mini campsite situated in the green heart of France, in a quiet region of the Auvergne, department Puy de Dome.

The chambres d'hotes/B&B has four spacious, attractive rooms with a private shower and toilet, a living room with fireplace, TV and WiFi. The expansive grounds around the house include a landscaped garden with stunning views and a large swimming pool with pool house.

There is the possibility to enjoy home-cooked meals, with simple dishes made from local products. We serve it in in the garden when the weather is pleasant enough - if not, we serve it in the original dining room. A barbecue at the pool house can also be organised.

The chambre d'hotes/ B&B is located in a 150 year-old manor house and is situated in a rural area along a main road to the south, in a wooded area between the mountains, near a recreational lake. Clermont-Ferrand is the nearest international airport and 45 km away. The chambres d'hotes is situated in the medieval town of Thiers, with its steep streets. Thiers is known for its knife factories.

Le Besset located 13 km away from the A72 junction Thiers and is therefore an ideal stop-over if you are travelling south, or if you want to enjoy the countryside for a few days. There are plenty of possibilties to enjoy yourself in this region. Auvergne is one of the last peaceful parts of France, with its lakes and volcanoes, unspoiled nature and ancient culture - the ideal place for holidaymakers seeking tranquility.

In the village of Saint-Remy sur Durolle, 5 minutes from Le Besset, you will find the necessary amenities such as a supermarket, bakery, and cafés. This village also has a large lake with beaches and a sunbathing area. Fishing licenses can be arranged for you at the lake and you can also rent paddle-boats. There is also plenty to do in this region such as canoeing, hiking, biking... and there are spas, markets ,a historic castle route during the summer, tourist trains, etc. We have enough information in the form of leaflets/brochures in our living room to help you on your way.

Domaine Le Besset is located in the Puy de Dôme - Auvergne - Massif Central. It is known for its clean air, beautiful and rugged nature, and a mostly pleasant climate. A region with many opportunities, both in sporting and cultural fields, and also ideal to enjoy some peace, environment and nature. Spring with its fields of wild flowers, the warm and sunny summer, autumn with its beautiful golden colours and beautiful winter frost gives one a lot to enjoy.

The Auvergne region is a rough area in the south central of France. The region is located in the Massif Central, an ancient volcanic massif which extends over almost one sixth of the total area of France. In the Auvergne, also called the green lung of France, well-known rivers like the Dordogne, the Lot and the Allier have their origin here. It is also known for its many hot springs and mineral waters. Famous spas in the region are La Bourboule and Vichy.

The Auvergne has hundreds of volcanoes, like the Puy-de-Dôme for example, known for its slopes which are often included in the Tour de France. Just south of the Puy-de-Dome is the mass of Sancy, and behind that the Cantal, the largest European volcanic massif. The impressive geological formations are interconnected through the plateau Cézallier. This arose from successive massive lava flows carved by the glaciers of the Quaternary era.

In the southwest lies the Deves plateau. This is more than 60 km long and has over one hundred and fifty small volcanoes. Like Cézallier, this plateau was formed from stacked lava flows. The Auvergne has about 1,310,000 inhabitants, and nearly one third lives in the capital, Clermont-Ferrand. This city is also known as "ville noir," because the houses are built with black volcanic stone.
