The farm is 31 acres and is situated in the Loire valley. We have several fields, a lake and the land borders onto the River Authion. Before the hay is cut there are paths which lead you on walks through the fields, around the lake and down to the riverside. After the hay is harvested the fields are then open for you to wander around and have picnics on. The setting is very rural with a few farm vehicles and cars passing on the road about 300 yards from the gites. There is one neighbour whose house is visible in the distance.

Description

Interior

As you enter the gite from its own private garden you walk into the sittng room/kitcen with a large shower room off to the right. At the end of the room off to the right is the door leading to the double bedroom. There is a door from the bedroom leading onto the farmyard. The kitchen are has a small oven, 2 hobs and a combination microwave. This newly renovated gite gite is 14th century with huge origanl beams. There is an area in the garden for eating outside and you can borrow a barbecue.

Activities

There are lots of activities for visitors here. You can hire bicycles in Saumur which is 12kms away and there are sign-posted cycle routes all round the area. There are fishing lakes about 25 minutes away and you can buy permits in Bourgueil on the day. there is canoeing in Saumur too and riding at the localpony club which is only a walk away. We have a heated swimming pool on the farm for the use of the clients and ourselves only. If you are a walker there are the forests nearby or the riverside or just walk on the farm

There are of course the vineyards to visit ans we have a local man who does tours in English in Bourgueil. There are huge numbers of domaines in Bourgueil, Saumur, Chinon for you to visit and enjoy a wine tasting and buy your wines.
Then there are the numerous chateaux to see the nearest of which is only 10 minutes away by car. Then there are 4 street markets on diffeent days in different towns each week the furthest only 30 minutes away. You can also visit the Cavalry school in Saumurand watch the horses being put through their paces or go to one of their events. Thereis also the tank museum to see.

For the children there is a theme park, a wonderful zoo at Doue which is also famous for its roses and troglodyte dwellings and caverns.

In the neighbourhood (max 30 minutes by car): swimming, walking, cycling, riding .

Restaurants, food & wine

There are huge numbers of restaurants of varying types in Saumur, Bourgueil and on the levee all within easy reach.
They all serve the local wines and many of the French restaurants serve the local fouees and galettes too. There are of course Italian, Chinese, Belgian and other types of restaurant if they appeal to you and most have tables on the pavements for watching the world go by. The Bourgueil domaines are very well known for their reds whereas Saumur produces all three including sparkling as well. Chinon has delicious red wines.

Other remarks

Bourgueil is part of a range of four gites so that if you have a large party we can accomodate for 14 to 16 people. There is a back garden which is private and you can sit out there and have your meals al fresco or borrow one of our barbecues. There are 2 loungers by the heated pool where you can relax after a hard days visits or spend a lazy day ther in the sun.
