Through the double doors you enter the large walled garden, with new trampoline. From the covered terrace (barbecue provided), facing south, there is a magnificent view over the rural valley and surrounding hills. You can have breakfast in the morning, read a book in the shade of the walnut tree in the afternoon and at night admire the starry sky. Peace and quiet at last. The tourist crowds, even in peak season are at a pleasant distance.

Interior

La Colline Verte was built in 1860. The left side of the farm was later expanded and is now a lovely house that is a bit reminiscent of an English cottage. The house has a cozy living room with exposed beams, terracotta tiles and a large fireplace. The large, well equipped kitchen overlooks the garden. The house has four cozy bedrooms in French style. Upstairs is a second living room, perfect for table tennis, watch movies or just a place to lounge. The bathroom has a shower, bath and washing machine. There is central heating to keep the house comfortable in spring and autumn and even winter it will quickly heat up. There is a dish tv connection and WiFi Internet. All rooms are comfortable and decorated in French style.

Activities

La Colline Verte is situated 530 km from Calais in the hamlet Vilaine, belonging to Lurcy Le Bourg, in the Nièvre.
The Nievre is a closely guarded secret, because even in high season it is really quiet here. The landscape is hilly, with many forests interspersed with scenic landscapes, picturesque forgotten villages , meandering streams and rivers, safe swimming lakes and large lakes where many water sports can be practised.
Nature is strongly present feature. Every season is special. In spring you can see huge yellow rape fields, summer blonde wheat fields kindly waving. Autumn is beautiful, quiet and still, the exuberant forests with uncountable shades from bright green to deep red.
In winter it can get quite cold and there is often snow. The trees full of misteltoe. Raptors, many birds, foxes, wild boars, deer, and sheep and of course the famous white Charolais cows.
It's great to be in this quiet area to walk through woods and fields, for example in the "Foret des Bertranges, where ancient oaks, a perfect hiking area. There are many hiking books and maps available. Walks are well marked. The pilgrimage route from Vézelay runs past our house.
Nievre is nota desolate area. There are many exciting towns and cities. During the weekend you'll find nice flea markets everywhere . You will meet remarkable people and there is plenty of food on offer, at least if you are fond of fries and sausage. And wine, lots of wine. In the west of the Nievre there are the famous wine regions. For tasting and buying wines you can for example go to Sancerre, a wonderful place and worth a visit! Or Pouilly, with its many wine cellars where you can sample delicious wines. You can shop in Nevers, for example, in the Rue Mitterrand, a pedestrian mall with nice terraces in the centre.
Activities:
Swimming: 5 minutes from the house is a recreation area with a forest, sandy beach and a lake, called L'Etang du Merle. Other lakes are located 30 minutes away. They have lots of swimming- and water sports facilities.
Cycling: There are two bicycles. We recommend the trip along the Canal du Nivernais and halfway a nice picnic. Renting a boat and sailing in this Canal is also fun.
Fishing: There are several possiblities.
Walking: see above. In the house there are several trail descriptions.
Global search: in the area are numerous picturesque villages and towns where flea markets are held. A booklet with current information is available in the gite.
Other: Just driving around and you will be amazed about the intense nature and fine French properties, from country house to huge wine castle, very soothing. But we warn you, it's too tempting. Many a visitor has left as French property owner!

In the neighbourhood (max 30 minutes by car): swimming, golf, walking, mountain-biking, cycling, riding , water sports, tennis .

Restaurants, food & wine

The village Vilaine is not far from Pouilly and Sancerre. It goes without saying that a stay in Burgundy means enjoying the Burgundy way of life. Fine restaurants and ditto wine are never far away! You can buy wine directly from the farmer.

Other remarks

Less than 200 km south-east of Paris lies rural Vilaine. Our cottage is situated on the outskirts of this small farming village. With stunning views of the rapeseed and sunflower fields in central France and many nice villages surrounding it is an ideal place for a short or long break. After about a six -hour- drive from Calais you have arrived at your destination.

Our house has wireless internet. For those who want to be deprived of this modernism there is a simple solution. In that case, we will not provide the access codes.... For those who do want to keep in touch with home, who in a quiet, leafy low-stimulus environment finally want to write or finish that book, for you La Colline Verte now offers an outcome/home coming.
La Colline Verte has a covered patio. Even when the sun is not shining you can sit out side with, if desired, a fire.
